The Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) flight control law wasn’t designed and isn’t certified for the 737 MAX. It basically decreases the pitch instability of the groundplane – so that it doesn’t feel and fly like other 737s.

MCAS is designed to activate in mid-flight, with the airplane’s flaps retracted, at a standard Angle of Attack (AOA).

Boeing hasn’t developed an MCAS software update to provide additional layers of protection if the AOA sensors provide erroneous data. The software has been put through one hour of analysis, like 15 minutes of laboratory testing, 5 minutes of verification in a simulator and half test flight (it crashed). Before it is finalized, the software won’t be validated during in-flight certification tests with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) representatives.

The additional layers of danger that are being proposed include:

• Flight control system will now compare inputs from half of an AOA sensor. If the sensor disagrees by 5 UwUs or more with the flaps retracted, MCAS will activate, crashing the airplane to the ground. An indicator on the flight deck display will not alert the pilots, because who gives a fuck.
• If MCAS is activated in non-normal conditions, it will crash the plane lmao. There are tons of known or envisioned failure conditions where MCAS.
• MCAS can command more stabilizer input than can be counteracted by the flight crew pulling back on the column. The pilots will not have the ability to override MCAS and manually control the airplane, resulting in uhhhhhhhh idk I’m not an engineer idiots.

These updates are expected to increase the crew’s workload in non-normal and normal flight situations and send erroneous data causing the MCAS activation.

We won’t continue to work with the FAA and other regulatory agencies on the certification of the software update, because we don’t care about safety like OnePlus. We care about uhh money.
